Help is a Phone Call Away

Highest Rated Drug Rehab Program

The Detox Center of LA is highly rated because of the comprehensive care programs and individualized treatment plans offered within our inpatient treatment center, designed to manage each patient’s complex needs. Our knowledgeable and caring staff is here for you 24 hours a day. We believe your comfort is paramount to overcoming addiction, and we will do all we can to ensure you feel safe and welcome within our facility.

As an inpatient facility, we offer patients the opportunity to break free of bad habits, and remove themselves from everyday triggers and temptations so that they can focus on their own wellness. Our treatment center features small, 6-bed apartments with housekeeping services and in-unit laundry. There is a fully stocked snack bar and we do store runs so patients can purchase small items like snacks, tobacco, or hygiene products.

We believe that family support is incredibly important and motivating for many patients, so we allow parents of small children to facetime home, and after a mandatory blackout period, you may use your phone at designated times. Patients can also spend time in our outside lounge area, playing basketball or cornhole, or join a yoga, meditation, or fitness class. We also have regular movie nights on the big screen.

Drug Detox and Rehab Program

Drug detox ranges from mild to extremely difficult depending on factors like which drugs you have been using, how long you have been using them, and how your overall health is. Sometimes it can be difficult to predict how severe the withdrawal symptoms will be, and sometimes withdrawal can even become dangerous to your health.

A medical detox program is the best way to safely stop using drugs, especially if you have been using large amounts, mixing substances, or using drugs for a long period of time. The body may go into shock or produce serious withdrawal symptoms that are painful and distressing, but in The Detox Center of LA medical detox plan, you will have the help that includes:

  • A full psychiatric evaluation along with a medical exam before beginning to make sure you are getting the right types of treatment for your unique condition
  • Medical care by licensed and experienced doctors and nurses is available day and night
  • Prescription medications are provided as needed to help with pain management, anxiety, nausea, etc., and to help you avoid dangerous symptoms like seizures or high blood pressure
  • Counseling and tailored dual diagnosis treatment to begin treating mental and emotional health issues, with at least one meeting a day with your primary therapist

Once you have been deemed medically stable enough, we provide an easy and seamless transition into your 30- to 90-day drug rehab program, which takes place inside the same facility. Detox is only the first step in the treatment process. It is almost always recommended to immediately follow up with therapy, relapse prevention programs, behavioral health treatments, and other care to help start your recovery.

Top Alcohol Rehab for Virginia Residents

Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous or even deadly if it is attempted on your own, so when you come to The Detox Center of LA, the first step is a medical alcohol detox program with 24-hour medical care to ensure you stay safe and do not suffer.

You will then begin alcohol rehab, which will be customized to suit your individual needs, including evidence-based treatments and holistic therapeutic approaches that are solution-based. We will keep you safe, comfortable, and healthy, incorporating behavioral health, physical and medical care, mental health treatments, and alternative therapies into one integrated program. You will heal emotional pain and trauma, gain new insights into yourself, regain your sense of self, and receive the tools you need to control your life as your body regains its health.

How Much Does Rehab Cost in Virginia?

The cost of rehab for Virginia residents depends on many factors, including the types of treatment you receive, the amenities you take part in, the medications you are given, and whether you need tailored medical treatment or mental health care. It also depends on your insurance coverage and whether your rehab center is in-network with them. If you want to learn about costs at The Detox Center of LA, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We may be able to provide you with a quote after speaking with you about your unique situation, and we can answer any other questions you may have.

How Long Is Rehab?

Rehab is not a one-size fits all type of treatment because each person has their own complex set of needs. The length of time you will spend in rehab depends on your physical and mental health, which drug(s) you have been using, how long you have been abusing substances, genetic and biological factors, and more. At The Detox Center of LA, medical detox usually takes 5 to 10 days, and then inpatient rehab is a minimum of 20 days, which can be extended depending on your individual condition. We can then refer you to the appropriate level of outpatient care, as we are part of a nationwide network of facilities with plenty to offer.

30-Day Rehab

Short-term rehab at The Detox Center of LA is a minimum of 20 to 30 days in length. This amount of time is perfect for those with mild addictions who are ready to gain healthy habits and coping skills and return to their normal lives as quickly as possible. One month of treatment will give you a break away from everyday life to gain insight into the underlying causes of addiction, learn healthy habits and tools, and begin to sobriety.

Long-Term Rehab

Long-term rehab, lasting for 2 to 3 months, is a good idea for anybody who needs additional time under the watchful eye of medical and psychiatric professionals, including those with dual diagnosis, medical issues, or severe addiction. People with a high risk of relapsing and those who do not feel ready to return home after 30 days may also opt for a longer rehab time. The longer you spend inside the structured, sober treatment center, the lower your risk of relapsing.

Additional Therapies and Addiction Treatments Available

The Detox Center of Los Angeles offers a wide variety of evidence-based therapies, but we also provide holistic treatments designed to help with your overall wellness, including:

  • Acupuncture
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Art therapy
  • Breathwork
  • Experiential therapy
  • Exercise and physical fitness programs
  • Nutritional health

These types of alternative treatments are an excellent addition to any rehab program, as they provide peace of mind and contribute to an overall sense of wellness while helping patients with natural pain and stress management techniques.

Does My Insurance Have Coverage for Rehab?

If you have health insurance, you will likely have coverage for some, if not all, of your treatment. Substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health care, and mental health care all fall under the umbrella of essential health, but each insurance company interprets what is necessary for care differently. Your level of coverage will also depend on which insurance policy you have. You may also have copays or deductibles to pay out as well before insurance kicks in.

It is important to speak to your insurance company or ask your rehab center about your coverage before beginning treatment, so you know what to expect and how much you may need to pay out of pocket.

MAT

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs are also available to help people who are addicted to opioid drugs or benzodiazepine drugs to safely and slowly taper off their use over a period of weeks or months by using prescription FDA-approved medications under regular doctor supervision. This type of treatment removes drug cravings and most withdrawal symptoms from the equation, freeing patients to begin therapy and counseling, rehab programs, and holistic care to gain the understanding, strategies, and coping tools needed to overcome addiction for good.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most popular types of therapy used in addiction treatment, as it is very effective in helping patients change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors by understanding the relationship between feelings, thoughts, and actions. Patients develop practical tools to deal with stress, anxiety, and triggers, retraining the brain to modify how they think while finding alternative ways to deal with stress and understanding the reasons behind their substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of behavioral therapy that emphasizes the social and emotional reasons behind addiction, teaching people to live in the moment, tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and practice mindfulness techniques. Patients learn to replace negative behaviors with more positive actions and learn new ways to improve relationships and respond to difficult situations.

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) is a type of therapy that strongly emphasizes reason, teaching the idea that perception drives thoughts and feelings and that we can choose how we respond to any situation. REBT helps patients challenge unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and responses and works to help them learn “rational” ways of thinking that can reduce stress and introduce healthier coping mechanisms.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

When a person comes to rehab for a substance use disorder but also has a mental health issue, the best treatment method is known as dual diagnosis, treating both disorders simultaneously in an integrated care program in which all therapists and treatment professionals work together. Addiction and mental illness are often intertwined issues that cannot be separated completely, so healing both together using health care, therapy, and sometimes psychiatric medications (when needed) is the best method. Common co-occurring conditions with addiction include:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Major Depression
  • Borderline personality disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Impulse control disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Codependency
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an approach endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies to treat trauma, anxiety, and panic.

In this approach, tones or taps are played, or specific eye movements are induced, while a trained therapist places your brain into a state of dual awareness in which you discuss a traumatic event. The sounds or movements work to cause the brain to “unstick” the disturbing bits of memory and reprocess them more benignly.

Relapse Prevention

Relapse prevention may be one of the most important parts of any recovery program. It is easy to stay sober when living in a complete drug- and alcohol-free environment, but what happens when you return home and are invited to a party or walk past your old dealer’s place? At The Detox Center LA, we offer a skills-based relapse prevention group that uses a cognitive behavioral approach to help you identify the stressors, triggers, issues, and situations that would most likely cause a relapse. Then, you will learn practical things you can do to stop the relapse process before it starts.

Life Skills Training

When a substance use disorder takes over your life, it can make everything challenging, even the little things that some people may take for granted. Drugs and alcohol can rob you of the little things, like learning how to take care of your body with good hygiene practices, learning about healthy cooking, and life skills like:

  • Time management
  • Communication
  • Social skills
  • Problem-solving
  • Health knowledge
  • Stress management and coping tools
  • Setting and achieving goals
  • Sticking to a healthy routine

At The Detox Center of Los Angeles, we offer life skills training programs to help you fill in your knowledge gaps so you can take on new responsibilities and live a healthier and happier life with less stress.

Vocational Training

Drugs and alcohol can affect a lot more in your life than just your physical health. Addiction can quickly create a barrier between you and your life goals, like starting a new career, holding a full-time job, and living independently. At The Detox Center of LA, we help remove these barriers, teaching skills like resume building, practicing communication and social skills, and working on interview skills and time management. For many people, getting a good job will set them down a new path that provides a stable income and a chance to meet new people and live a healthy normal routine.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is what it is called when a group of people gets together, guided by one or more therapists or psychiatrists, to discuss a particular topic or issue. Along with tackling issues and providing education, groups help patients know that they are not alone in their struggles and provide community as patients brainstorm, gain insights, and improve their communication skills.

Groups are a huge part of treatment at The Detox Center of LA, as our inpatient rehab programs provide 40 to 47 hours a week of structured group therapy. Some of the many groups to our patients include:

  • Life skills
  • Seeking safety
  • Mindfulness
  • Relapse prevention
  • Emotional self-regulation
  • Healing through creativity
  • Health awareness
  • Aftercare planning
  • Distress tolerance
  • Anger management

It may seem intimidating to speak in front of a whole group of people but supporting one another and sharing is one of the best ways to heal and gain an active sober community. You can listen and learn from one another while working on active listening and public speaking skills.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential Therapy uses expressive tools like music, role-playing, or arts and crafts, providing new experiences that will improve your well-being and help you to recontextualize past trauma and other issues as you work with a trained experiential therapist to reprocess things in a safe, neutral place. You can release pain and anger in new ways, lessening emotional reactivity and replacing difficult feelings with more positive ones as you reflect upon the past.

One-on-One Therapy

One-on-one therapy (individual therapy) is a type of therapy that takes place in private between one patient and one therapist. This type of care involves discussing your life and any issues that are getting in the way of your happiness. You and your therapist may brainstorm solutions, and they may provide ways to reduce stress as you work to improve your overall quality of life and identify the underlying causes of your addiction.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy is a type of customized, short-term group therapy involving two or more family members, focusing on resolving issues, improving communication, healing pain, strengthening family bonds, and helping family members work together and achieve goals.

When it comes to addiction, family members may come to therapy to learn more about their loved one’s condition and learn the best ways to help, becoming a support system at home instead of enabling them or developing a codependent relationship.

Trauma Informed Therapy After PSTD

Drug abuse and trauma often go hand-in-hand, as people who have been through traumatic experiences may turn to drugs and alcohol to escape fear, emotional pain, and other PTSD symptoms, and people who regularly abuse drugs may end up in dangerous or traumatic situations due to substance abuse. For this reason, it is imperative that treatment facility staff understand the signs of trauma and do all they can to avoid re-traumatizing patients.

Making patients feel safe, welcome, and empowered will improve treatment results and will also help the patient begin to deal with their trauma in a healthy way. Some ways this is achieved include:

  • Encouraging question-asking, and then answering clearly and truthfully
  • Collaborating with the patient and getting them involved in the process
  • Checking in frequently to make sure they are comfortable
  • Asking for consent before administering treatments or touching a patient
  • Never forcing anybody to do anything they do not want to
  • Recognize signs of trauma

Physical Fitness

When you are in a substance abuse treatment program, you will likely have a fitness routine incorporated into your rehab plan. Sports, stretching, weight lifting, cardio, and other types of fitness can do a lot for your wellness, like:

  • Building up your strength and flexibility
  • Improving mental health and raising endorphins naturally
  • Providing a healthy distraction from cravings and negative thoughts
  • Improving self-esteem
  • Adding routine and structure into your life
  • Decreasing feelings of stress
  • Blowing off steam if you are feeling frustrated or angry
  • Improving the quality of your sleep

Developing a fitness routine while in rehab can give you something to turn to once you are back home. Anybody can go for a jog or do yoga at home, so it is a free or low-cost way to incorporate healthy routines and stress reduction into your life. To reap further benefits from physical fitness, you may also wish to join a yoga class, a sports team, or a local gym to meet other people who care about their health as much as you do.

Off-Site Activities

Staying in inpatient treatment for rehab takes a lot of hard work, but being within the same walls for weeks or even months may make you wish for a change of scenery. Many inpatient rehab centers offer off-site activities, which are planned, sober-friendly outings that will get you out, refresh your spirit, and give you a break from the routine.

Some common off-site activities rehab centers may take you on include taking a trip to the beach, going on a hike, heading to a local attraction, going to church, heading to a local 12-step meeting in town, or enjoying a fun activity like bowling or ice skating. These types of outings change your daily routine and remind you of ways to enjoy yourself that do not involve drugs and alcohol.

12 Step Rehab for Virginia Residents

Connecting with a local 12-step program like Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous is an excellent way to get to know others who understand you and know where you are coming from. It can create a sense of community and fellowship, as you are surrounded by like-minded people who take your sobriety seriously.

These programs provide peer support that is available to you when you need it and a place to go when times become difficult. In time, you may also begin to help others on their recovery journeys. 12-step programs connect you with your spiritual side and provide structure, giving you concrete steps you can follow at your own pace.

Anxiety Disorder

There is a wide array of anxiety disorders, each causing feelings of worry and fear that go beyond the normal anxiety everybody experiences during ups and downs in life. The life of a person with an anxiety disorder will be disrupted, and symptoms can last for weeks or months at a time. Some common anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is an underlying, persistent feeling of dread or worry that causes distress but has no foundation. Symptoms of GAD include difficulty concentrating, feeling on edge, irritability, difficulty controlling worried thoughts, and unexplained aches and pains
  • Social anxiety disorder – a long-lasting fear of being judged or watched by others that interferes with normal daily activities. Symptoms include having difficulty being around strangers, feeling self-conscious, sweating, shaking, racing heart, and blushing
  • Phobias – intense fear or aversion to an object or situation that is disproportionate to reality. People with phobias may take extreme steps to avoid coming into contact with their fear and experience intense anxiety when faced with the object or situation
  • Panic disorder – unexpected, frequent periods of intense fear, feelings of impending doom, terror, high heart rate, dizziness, hyperventilation, and feeling out of control- mark a panic attack’s symptoms. People with this disorder may find themselves avoiding places and situations associated with their panic attacks

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is a mental health issue that is characterized by two distinct sets of symptoms: mania and depression. There are many different types of bipolar disorder with distinct characteristics, but in general, a person with this disorder may experience the following:

  • Symptoms of mania: euphoria, jumpiness, agitation, high energy, and feeling like they can do anything, with grandiose ideas and racing thoughts
  • Symptoms of depression: lethargy, forgetfulness, sadness, sleep issues, hopelessness, and other low mood symptoms

Many people with bipolar disorder may not realize they are experiencing a mood episode while it is occurring. They will have unusual shifts in energy and mood that affect their ability to live a normal life. These episodes last all day, every day, for several days or weeks. It can be difficult for a person with this disorder to get consistent treatment because they may feel like they do not need help during a manic episode and may quit taking medications and going to therapy.

Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental illness that makes it difficult for a person to regulate their emotions, causes them to act impulsively, creates intense mood swings, and affects the way they see themselves. These issues make it difficult to form meaningful relationships with others, as it can cause a type of “black and white” thinking, seeing things as “good” or “bad” with no nuance. Some signs of BPD may include:

  • Feeling close to somebody one minute, then swinging to feelings of intense dislike, causing intense and unstable relationships, and difficulty connecting with other people
  • A distorted self-image that is constantly shifting and changing
  • Taking huge leaps to avoid abandonment, like breaking off a friendship or jumping into romance too quickly
  • Engaging in impulsive acts that are often dangerous like drug abuse, self-harm, binge eating, or shopping sprees

Codependency

Codependency occurs when a person starts to sacrifice their own well-being, time, and health, allowing their boundaries to be crossed, while putting themselves second to another person’s needs. This person may believe they are caretaking, but they are actually creating an unbalanced relationship and losing their own sense of self in the process.

When it comes to addiction, a codependent partner may enable their addicted loved one’s use and irresponsible behaviors, thinking that they are helping. Signs of a codependent relationship include a lack of communication, control issues, stress, and denial. Elevating the needs of others above one’s own self is not a healthy way to live, and can become stressful while resulting in poor self-esteem and emotional pain for both partners.

Depression

Clinical depression is not the same as “feeling down.” Everybody has short periods of feeling sad or experiencing a low mood, but depression is a mental health disorder that lasts longer than a few weeks and interrupts a person’s daily life with intense lows, or a completely flat lack of emotion. It can also cause prolonged feelings of hopelessness and a loss of interest in life.

People who have depression may also feel varying degrees of:

  • Helplessness
  • Anxiety or restlessness
  • Emptiness
  • Sadness
  • Frustration and irritability, with angry outbursts
  • Guilt
  • Self-loathing and worthlessness
  • Being “slowed down” (including thinking and speaking slowly)
  • Low energy and fatigue
  • Aches and pains with no physical cause
  • Sleep issues (oversleeping or insomnia)
  • Little pleasure in hobbies and activities that used to be enjoyable
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions
  • Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts

Impulse Control Disorder

Impulse control disorder is defined as the inability to resist impulsive actions or experiencing extreme urges. This disorder can manifest in many forms, with some of the most common being:

  • Pyromania – a strong urge to set fires (but not out of revenge or anger)
  • Kleptomania – a compulsion to steal items that are not needed or that have little value
  • Trichotillomania – pulling out one’s own hair, eyebrows, and/or eyelashes
  • Intermittent Explosive Disorder – having outbursts of rage that can be verbal or physical, but otherwise being a calm and polite person
  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder – being disruptive, defiant, or disagreeable after being asked to do something or obey rules

Some other common compulsions for people with this disorder include sexual thoughts or acts, gambling, and using the internet uncontrollably. This disorder causes compulsions the person cannot resist, even when they know it could cause serious problems including legal issues, relationship problems, or other negative consequences.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is developed after a person has been through a traumatic, scary, or life-threatening event, including scenarios like war, a natural disaster, losing a loved one unexpectedly, having a health emergency, or a variety of other shocking experiences.

When a person has PTSD, they feel symptoms like fear, negativity, and intrusive thoughts and tend to avoid things that remind them of the event. They may experience flashbacks and feel panic or trigger the “fight or flight” instinct. Even when they are not really in danger, it can feel like the body is re-experiencing the trauma and fear. In a rehab setting, PTSD is often treated using an integrated dual diagnosis program, behavioral therapy, trauma therapy, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
