While many think of drugs as the domain of metal and rock bands, it has also hit the hip-hop community hard as well. It has now hit the news that up and coming hip-hop star Lil Peep has died from a suspected overdose.
Drugs in the hip-hop world have been a long time problem, and according to the Daily Mail, Peep admitted he used LSD, mushrooms, and pot, and he also reportedly took 20 Xanax a day to fight anxiety. (Xanax, or “xans” as its’ referred to in rap, has been a big problem in hip-hop for years.)
Lil Peep died young, he was 21, and while a cause of death is not official as of yet, the current speculation is that he overdosed. Even his manager, Chase Ortega, wrote, “I’ve been expecting this call for a year.”
Peep also openly struggled with depression, and he spoke about trying to hold himself together on tour. His death happened two days before he was to perform a gig.
Peep apparently, and unfortunately, may not have gotten professional help for his troubles, telling one interviewer, “I’m not (medicated for depression). Everyone always begged me to, but I don’t want to do it. I just like smoking weed and whatever other drug comes my way.
