Coping 101

Everyone has their own way of coping. Whether it’s sports, or working out, or reading, writing, eating, sleeping, praying… you get the point. No matter what it is, everyone has their own way of coping. You just have to find it. Before finding your way, your days might seem longer and harder than ever. You might feel like you want to rip your hair out and scream, or that the world is just against you all the time. Those feelings are normal. Go scream in a pillow if you really feel like you have to. It’s OK. As human beings, it is crucial to discover your appropriate and healthy way of stress release. It may take time, but once you find it you’ll wonder why you never did it before.

Before you say you don’t have a coping mechanism, I ask you to stand back with an open mind and an open heart. Tell yourself that you deserve this. No one deserves to be unhappy every second of everyday. And yes, that includes you. You’re no exception to this rule. Try doing those things that you were never confident doing. Pick up that paint brush and paint. Go tie up your laces and kick that soccer ball. Grab your hairbrush and pretend it’s a microphone and sing your heart out to your favorite songs. Open up a journal and grab a pen and write; and don’t stop. Good mental health can be tricky, but there’s always an alternative! What worked before might not be working now. But that’s how life is. We always change and grow each and every day of our lives.

You CAN find that right method that will help you and no matter what, say, “NO!” to self-doubt. You may feel weak and you may feel hopeless at times, but you need to remember that you weren’t always like this. We are all strong, confident, and beautiful human beings, in our own way. Always remember that even though you may not feel like that now, you have it within you to feel at peace and happy again. No matter what your situation is, there’s always room for more positivity. Even if you’ve never done that before, that doesn’t mean you can’t start now. Life is all about the beauty of becoming. Find your coping method. Recognize each day as a new opportunity to explore new avenues of your life. Learn to seize each day and attempt something new. Not one day is the same. You get a whole new 24 hours to essentially restart every single day. No one said it’s going to be easy. But it will be worth it. Till next time. Remember, breathe, it’s all going to be okay.
