If you’re suffering from depression, you’re certainly not alone, and even major A-list action stars like The Rock have had to fight the blues. The Rock not only had to endure trauma as a 15-year-old but also as a young man when he tried to get his football career together.
As The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, recalled, his mother tried to walk into traffic when he was 15 years old. The family had just been evicted from their apartment, and it was a trauma he had a hard time getting over. He told the NY Daily News: “I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.”
Thankfully Johnson’s mother is still alive and well, and had no recollection of trying to end her life, which he says is “best. We both healed but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.”
The Rock also went through a trauma when he lost his dream of being a pro football player. He had a deal with the Canadian Football League, but lost it in a year, and then his girlfriend dumped him. “That was my absolute worst time,” The Rock told Express.
But then he went on to major success as a wrestler, and he’s now one of the biggest grossing stars in the world. The Rock tweeted to his fans, “Depression never discriminates. Took me a long time to realize it but the key is to not be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone.” He also wrote to a fan who had depression issues, saying, “I hear you. I’ve battled that beast more than once.”
